I get annoyed when I have a lot of my art onto these sites and they never get feedback. At school the kids can't wait to tell me what they think but on the internet I've noticed that they are very silent, maybe it's because my style is too different? When I ask people to critiqe it they say, "there is nothing wrong with it" well that obviously can't be right if no one is commenting?

i know right!!! i absolutely HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS. if they TRULY LIKE YOUR WORK, SHOULDN'T THEY COMMENT ON IT?!?!?
or if they don't think something is so good, they should at least GIVE YOU FEEDBACK.
i think the reason they don't give you comments..is probably because they're too lazy to. -_-
yups...
i hate it when people say THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!! THERE'S ALWAYS something wrong with something. there's ALWAYS room for improvement. dude. i hate it when someone says something like that...

Unfortunately, there are a lot of factors that contribute to commenting or lack thereof. For one, especially around here, there are a lot of people with different skill levels and different goals posting art for different reasons. Some people are looking for serious critique to improve, some people are just enjoying a hobby and not really looking for anything more serious. One of the tools dev offers to help with that is the 'Critique Desired' tab. You can select the 'Advanced Critique' mode and then people are more aware of what you are looking for. Another good place to go is *da-mentors The entire purpose of that group is to provide serious critique to help those looking for it. Hope any of that helps improve your dilemma :)

ps-if you would like some serious critique, I'd be happy to go through a few, but I never like to go there unless I'm %100 sure that's what the person wants.

(I couldnt help but notice then when I stopped by)

I have to say, that dA is a place that feeds on fanart and "shiney" art that just looks so darn pretty. I have thought the same thing many many times-you're not alone. take for instance that pic you just faved from me (thanks btw n_n :hug:) that pic is pretty much famous offline, it's in a calendar that is now across the nation, it won me a lot of money for a scholarship and everyone is always amazed by it. but online, what? 16favs? yeah.

dA is helpful, but really you get the most attention when you whore yourself out for the publics eye to get tons of screaming fangirls. If you keep at it and keep true to yourself, you can make great things happen, and not just be able to say 'well...people online liked it' cause really, trying to get a job in art, the people hiring wont give a care how many fanarts you've done or how many pageviews/comments you have.
and sometimes a few helpful comments are way better then a ton of comments just saying 'nice' the whole time.
then again, some people on here are older, more experienced and so on, so of course skill for them would get them some attention. It's all a learning process, and we all start somewhere, as long as you don't just give up =)
Hope that made some sense and that I didnt ramble too much o o;;

Good artists are crappy artists who never gave up
